INTRODUCTION
Robotics Innovation Challenge (RIC) is a leading competition in the region for youth robotics, jointly organized by National University of Singapore (NUS) schools and professors. We aim to promote and enhance the problem-solving skills among youth, from critical thinking to solution optimization. Each year, RIC has a theme which is closely linked to a field of study or daily life scenarios. It develops a mindset among students that technology is meant to be applied to improve life, even after the competition.
This year, we set the theme to be “Robotics for Teenage Health”. We encourage all participants to explore how robotics could possibly help to improve physical and mental health of teenagers. We look forward to seeing observations from unique angles and innovative solutions around.
GRAND ARENA
In the Grand Arena (GA), robots from the participating teams will play against each other in a Sports Game, trying to score the most credits by participating in different sports, collecting the balls spread in the field and sending them to the opponent’s side. The balls can be collected at the swimming pool, skiing area, mountain climbing area and the soccer field. During the last minute of the game, the robots can go over to the opponent’s side and have more interaction with the opponent and the items on the field.

INNOVATION DESIGN CHALLENGE
Innovation Design Challenge (IDC) aims to challenge the level of creativity and hands-on ability of the participating teams. It requires participants to design and build a robot in approximately 4 months according to a predetermined theme each year. The finalists will present to a group of judges live in the venue, December 2022.
The theme of this year’s IDC is “Robotics for Teenager Health”. You are expected to design a robot that can directly or indirectly help teenagers become healthier. The robot can be a companion, an assistant or a tool to help teenagers keep healthy in any of the activity, or engage the teenagers to participate in any of the activity that is promoting health by making it more interesting. As long as you can explain why your robot is promoting teenage health, we will accept it.
Note: The robot is required to have at least one mechanical component that is movable and functional, so a mobile app or website is not acceptable.
